Back in 1987, grocery-store owner Lattimore M. Michael made a name for himself serving one-of-a-kind, homemade burgers in Cleveland, Mississippi. People drove from miles around to enjoy his tasty, grilled burgers. That same year, Michael founded Back Yard Burgers with the first BYB restaurant in Cleveland, MS. A year later, Back Yard Burgers opened our first franchised restaurant down the road in Clarksdale, MS.
Back Yard Burgers Today
Today, Back Yard Burgers owns and operates over 170 restaurants in 20 states, primarily in the Southeast. The company entered a new phase on November 9, 2007 with the merger/buy-out by BBAC, LLC and the recent re-location of company headquarters to Nashville, TN. Today, we’re forging ahead with plans to build out our existing markets and provide the best burger experience around to hundreds more burger lovers.
Dine In or Drive Thru
In the early days, most BYBs were double drive-thru restaurants. Today, Back Yard Burger restaurants feature a full dining room with a self-service beverage center and the standard, single drive-thru.
